Baseball tourney continues

The inaugural 12-team Honolulu Container Storage Baseball Classic continues today through Saturday at various school and community fields.

The field includes four-time reigning state champion Punahou, as well as perennial powers 'Aiea, Kailua, Kalani, Kamehameha, Leilehua, Moanalua and Wai'anae.

Kailua, the host school, has a split squad and two teams entered. The tournament began Monday.

Today's games, all set for 4 p.m., pit 'Aiea at Punahou, Kailua (ss) at Moanalua, Kapolei at Kahuku, Leilehua vs. Kamehameha at Joey De Sa Field, Waipahu at Wai'anae and Kalani at Kailua (ss).

Tomorrow's games, also at 4 p.m., have Punahou at Moanalua, Kahuku at 'Aiea, Kailua (ss) vs. Kapolei at Waipahu, Kamehameha vs. Kalani at Kahala Field, Leilehua at Wai'anae and Waipahu at Kailua (ss).

Saturday's games will all be played at Kailua, with teams seeded and paired according to this week's results. The championship game is tentatively set for 4 p.m.

Punahou, ranked 50th in the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason national high school poll, went 3-2-1 on a trip to Katy, Texas, last week.
