UH softball team sweeps Riverside

Courtney Baughman and Kate Robinson pitched shutouts as the 15th-ranked University of Hawai'i softball team swept a doubleheader from UC Riverside yesterday in Riverside, Calif.

Baughman (6-0) scattered seven hits while walking one and striking out six, and Brandi Peiler hit a solo homer as the Rainbow Wahine (10-2) beat the Highlanders (4-11), 2-0, in the opener.

Robinson (4-2) yielded five hits while walking one and striking out six for a 6-0 win in the second game. Robinson also had two hits and two RBIs, and Tanisha Milca went 3 for 4 for UH.

Hawai'i will next play in the Eller Media Stadium Classic, starting tomorrow in Las Vegas.


BASKETBALL

HAWAI'I-HILO, HPU SPLIT

Vince Alvarado scored 24 points and hit five of Hawai'i-Hilo's 15 3-pointers as the Vulcans routed Hawai'i Pacific, 100-64, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's game at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Jay De Maestri added 17 points for the host Vulcans (13-11, 8-8).

Jason Curtis led the Sea Warriors (8-19, 5-13) with 16 points.

In the women's game, Ashley Jenkins had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Jocelyn Norris added 13 points and 10 rebounds as HPU (8-19, 8-10) beat Hawai'i-Hilo (8-15, 8-8).

Sheila Azevedo led the Vulcans with 13 points and 11 rebounds.


SWIMMING

UH'S FRICK GRABS GOLD

University of Hawai'i's Magnus Frick scored 363.25 points to win the 1-meter diving event at the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships yesterday at Houston, Texas.

SMU leads with 108 points. UH is tied for second with 104 points.


TENNIS

LAM FAILS TO QUALIFY

Honolulu's Chris Lam fell in the finals of qualifying at last week's $15,000 Valley Baptist Health System Futures tournament in Harlingen, Texas. Lam lost to American Nima Roshan, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, and failed to get into the main draw.
