Lihue, Kahului airports cell-phone waiting areas open

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Transportation has opened cell phone waiting lots at the Kahului and Lihu'e Airports, allowing motorists to park and wait for arriving passengers to call for pick-up.

The Kahului Airport lot is located on Hemaloa Street, next to UPS cargo facilities, and will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Parking is free, and motorists will be allowed to wait up to an hour on the property. Unattended vehicles will be cited and possibly towed.

The Lihu'e lot is is curbside along Ho'olimalima Place, next to the car rental facilities and just a few minutes away from the airport terminal. It will be available for use from 5 a.m. to the close of business daily.

A similar cell phone waiting area opened this week at the Hilo airport, and earlier at Honolulu International Airport.

The DOT also added a new express lane to the public pay-parking lot at the Maui airport that accepts credit cards.
