Baseball: Bobby Murcer to undergo brain biopsy

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. — New York Yankees broadcaster Bobby Murcer is scheduled to undergo a brain biopsy Monday in Houston.

Murcer had surgery on Dec. 28, 2006, four days after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. An MRI performed Tuesday showed an area of concern, which could be scar tissue or another tumor.

The 61-year-old Murcer played with the Yankees, San Francisco and the Chicago Cubs during a 17-year career. He has been a broadcaster on Yankees games for 23 seasons.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who spent last season as a team broadcaster, said Friday that he hadn't spoken with Murcer recently.
