WAILUKU, Maui — A Navy explosive ordnance disposal team will travel to Kaho'olawe next week to dispose of newly discovered ordnance at several locations on the island.

The operation will take place between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily from Tuesday to Friday, according to the Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commission, which authorized the mission.

The commission also has requested restricted airspace over the Kaho'olawe Reserve during the ordnance operation.

All personnel on Kaho'olawe not involved with the explosives demolition will be directed to remain in designated safe areas until the operation is complete.

Commission staff will serve as guides for the Navy team, advising them of significant, actively managed and protected natural, cultural and historic areas, the agency said.
