Verona, Italy, in the 14th century. Yes, this is the setting of Shakespeare's enduring tragedy of love and loss, pride and prejudice, put to opera by Charles Francois Gounod.
"Romeo & Juliet," the final production in Hawaii Opera Theatre's season, takes a bow tonight, directed by HOT exec Karen Tiller.
Details:
The story: Romeo (played by George Dyer) and Juliet (Audrey Elizabeth Luna) fall in love, but alas! They come from warring families, the Montagues and Capulets.
A secret marriage, a duel to the death and much misunderstanding follow, leading to a disastrous conclusion for the two lovers.
When and where: 8 p.m. today, 4 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
