Tinnin lifts UH over Idaho

Megan Tinnin scored 20 of her career-high 25 points in the second half to spur Hawai'i to a 67-54 victory over Idaho in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game last night at Moscow, Idaho.
The Rainbow Wahine improved to 11-15 overall and 5-8 in the WAC. Idaho is 2-24 and 1-13.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 50 percent in the second half to pull away from a 21-21 halftime tie.
Tinnin, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard, had a career-high six 3-pointers, including five in the second half. She finished 8 of 12 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range.
Senior guard Saundra Cariaga was the only other Rainbow Wahine in double figures with 13 points, including 9 of 9 from the free-throw line. Tanya Smith added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half, with the Rainbow Wahine making 7 of 20 shots (35 percent), while Idaho was 6 of 28 (21 percent).
UH's Smith and Tara Hittle got into early foul trouble, and the Rainbow Wahine committed 18 turnovers in the first half.
The Rainbow Wahine offense warmed up in the second half, hitting 15 of 30 shots.
UH had only six turnovers in the second half.
Katie Madison scored 20 points to lead the Vandals, while Yinka Olorunnife added 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Rainbow Wahine play at Boise State tomorrow in the Taco Bell Arena. They finish the regular season with home games against Louisiana Tech on March 6 and New Mexico State on March 8.
