New law designed to settle claims without lawsuits
Advertiser Staff
Starting this year, anyone who files a lawsuit against an engineer, architect, surveyor, landscape architect or other design professional must first file a claim with the state's Design Claim Conciliation Panel. The requirement begins Jan. 1.
It was approved in 2007 as part of Act 207.
The program is designed to assist parties in evaluating their claims and exchanging information. The goal of the new panel is to provide parties with an opportunity to resolve claims without filing a lawsuit.
