Executive director named at Waikiki Health Center

Advertiser Staff

Sheila Beckham has been named the new executive director of the Waikiki Health Center, a nonprofit medical and social service agency.

Beckham starts her new role immediately, succeeding Paul Strauss, who left the center to accept a position with Bay Clinic on the Big Island.

Beckham has served the past 24 years as director of preventive health for the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. She administered grants, research, programs and activities concerning chronic disease management, medical nutrition therapy, HIV/AIDS, traditional Hawaiian Healing, family planning and other issues that mirror many of Waikiki Health Center's areas of focus.

In collaboration with the center's board of directors and medical director, Beckham will oversee the agency's small network of clinics and outreach programs. Among her responsibilities will be directing the center's ongoing expansion of programs and services to meet community needs, and continuous quality improvement activities, a news release from the health center said.
