A 93-year-old Honolulu man died early today hours after he was struck on Pali Highway in Nu'uanu.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Chung Rak Ha.

Ha was struck by a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck while crossing Pali Highway, 39 feet west of Dowsett Avenue, in a marked crosswalk, said police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. John Agno. The accident was reported to police at 6:25 p.m.

Ha was likely walking home when struck, Guy Takazono said of his father-in-law.

Ha was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died at 1:30 a.m., said Agno.

An autopsy today determined cause and manner of death as craniocerebral injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.

The pickup truck driver, a 47-year-old Kailua man, was not injured. Speed, alcohol or drugs were not apparent factors, Agno said.

The death was O'ahu's first traffic fatality of 2008.
