Hawaii stock index declines despite Hoku's gain

The Bloomberg-Honolulu Advertiser Hawai'i Index fell for a fifth straight trading session eight stocks declined.

The 11-member stock index dropped 2.22 points to 91.73, as gains by three stocks, including a 13.7 percent gain by Hoku Scientific Inc. to $14.19. That was a record closing high for the Kapolei-based company.

Decliners were led by Barnwell Industries, which was off $2.46, or 20 percent, to $9.75.

Other notable drops were recorded by by Maui Land & Pineapple, which was down 3.6 percent, or $1.05k, to $27.75, and Central Pacific Financial, which dropped 88 cents to $17.07. That represented a 4.9 percent decline.
