Kahekili beautification work to begin Monday

Advertiser Staff

Work will begin Monday on a Kahekili Highway beautification project seven years in the making.

The $4 million project includes the installation of landscaped planter boxes on the median divider, 19 roadside vine planter boxes, construction of accessible curb ramps and the resurfacing of Kahekili Higway lanes between Kulukeoe Street and Haiku Road in Kaneohe.

Work is expected to be completed in December, the state Department of Transportation said in a press release.

Single lane closures on Kahekili are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. next week, Monday through Friday.

The project was conceived in 2001 but was delayed by a lack of money and other problems.
