Officer fights spray-painting suspect with mace

Advertiser Staff

A 51-year-old man is in police custody tonight after allegedly spray-painting a police officer who tried to arrest him — for spray-painting a roadway.

Police said the 'Ewa Beach man was spotted late Thursday night spray-painting the road fronting Ala Moana Center.

When the female officer told him to stop, he refused. Then he sprayed the officer with gold paint while she tried to arrest him, police said.

As a struggle continued, the man grabbed the officer's leg and caused several bruises. Eventually, he was subdued with the use of pepper spray, police said.

The man was being held on charges of first-degree assault against a police officer and criminal property damage in the third and fourth degrees.
