Man charged in Dec. 26 stabbing death

A convicted felon was being held on $1 million bail tonight after being charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Kalihi on the day after Christmas.

RJ Ham of Kalihi was charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Ham was free on probation for a previous assault when he allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Fugitogamala Savea through the heart Dec. 26.

Police said Savea was standing with friends on a street corner on North School Street when Ham approached and started an argument that led to the death. The two did not know each other, police said.

Ham, who was convincted of second-degree assault in May 2006, was arrested Wednesday night in Waipahu following a seven-day police search.
