Spray painting officer lands man in jail

Advertiser Staff

A 51-year-old man was in police custody last night after allegedly spray-painting a police officer who tried to arrest him — for spray painting a roadway.

Police said the 'Ewa Beach man was spotted late Thursday night spray-painting the road fronting Ala Moana Shopping Center.

When the female officer told him to stop, he refused. Then he sprayed the officer with gold paint while she tried to arrest him, police said.

As a struggle continued, the man grabbed the officer's leg and caused several bruises. Eventually, he was subdued with the use of pepper spray, police said.

The man was being held Friday night on charges of first-degree assault against a police officer and criminal property damage in the third and fourth degrees.
