Trade winds likely to weaken throughout the weekend

Trade winds will weaken through the weekend eventually turning to the southeast on Sunday as a high pressure area north of the state shifts eastward, the National Weather Service said.

The ridge that extends from the high will shift southward over Kauai on Monday, producing variable winds into the middle of next week, forecasters said.

Here's a closer look at what to expect weather-wise during the next few days:

Today: Isolated showers after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 81. East wind around 8 mph.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Light southeast wind.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Light east wind.
