Hockey: Russia tops United States in U20 worlds

Associated Press

PARDUBICE, Czech Republic — Nikita Filatov scored twice to help Russia defeat the United States 4-2 today for the bronze medal at the under-20 World Ice Hockey Championship.

Later Saturday, defending champion Canada plays Sweden in the final.

Russia took an early 4-0 lead behind goals by Alexei Cherepanov, Evgeni Kurbatov and Filatov.

Rhett Rakhshani had the first goal for the Unites States midway through the second half and Jordan Schroeder added a power-play goal with 6:21 remaining.

The Americans beat Russia 3-2 in the preliminaries last week.

The U.S. won the event in 2004 and Russia was a finalist the last three years.
