The third annual Statewide Prayer Watch sponsored by the Prayer Center of the Pacific and a network of local Christian churches begins at 4 p.m. today at Aloha Stadium. Doors open at 3 p.m. with pre-event worship at 3:30 p.m. The "Catch the Vision" event will focus on prayer for those in government, the military, education, business, communications and the media, families, churches, public servants, prisons and other public and private structures.

Last year, more than 4,000 people participated in the second Prayer Watch, which included music, dramatic presentation on the theme "We Need God in America," an introductory address by Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona and prayer led by various pastors.

SESSIONS SET FOR LAPSED CATHOLICS

The Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa invites lapsed Catholics for informal listening sessions and an update on the Catholic faith.

The sessions, facilitated by former lapsed Catholics, begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 24, in the sacristy of the co-cathedral, 720 N. School St.

The Thursday evening sessions cover changes in the church since Vatican II, discussions on confession and the Nicene Creed.

CELEBRATION OF FEAST OF EPIPHANY

A Holden Evening Prayer Sing Along, a Feast of the Epiphany celebration with music, readings, meditation and dance, will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave.

Copies of the musical score will be distributed; the Crossroads' Choir will be seated among the congregation to support the singing.

Crossroads' pastor, the Rev. Neal MacPherson, will serve as cantor, with a reading by United Methodist Rev. Barbara Grace Ripple.

Soloists include soprano Linda Rich and baritone Eldon Wegner with Claire Rivero playing Celtic harp and liturgical dancing by Kathy Maddux.

The Holden Evening Prayer was written by composer Marty Haugen in 1985-86 while he was musician-in-residence at the Lutheran Retreat Center at Holden Village, a year-round ecumenical center in the North Cascade Mountains.

COURSE FOCUSES ON LIFE'S LIMITS

The Rev. Ron Ching presents "Boundaries," a video and discussion course that addresses the boundaries or limits that influence all aspects of our lives.

SHINRAN SHONIN WILL BE HONORED

The Moiliili Hongwanji Mission, 902 University Ave., will offer a Shinran Shonin remembrance (Hoonko) service honoring Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shin Buddhism.

The English language service will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 13 with a 10:30 a.m. Japanese service to follow. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Shigenori Makino.

EPIPHANY EVENT AT ST. ANDREW'S

St. Andrew's Festival of Lessons & Carols will have a special Epiphany event.

At 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, the cathedral will host the Epiphany Festival of Lessons and Carols, a service that weaves carols and hymns together with readings from Scripture. The first Lessons & Carols service was created in 1880 by E.W. Benson, later archbishop of Canterbury, and held on Christmas Eve in Truro, England, in a wooden shed.

The candlelight service includes the Cathedral Choir and Hawai'i's largest pipe organ.
