Catherine Lei Wai Lan Wong Jayne, a graduate student at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, was named queen of the 59th annual Narcissus Festival last night.

Jayne, who is pursuing a master's degree in public administration and studying Mandarin, topped other candidates in the festival showcasing Chinese art and culture in the Hawai'i community. She is a graduate of Punahou School and Claremont McKenna College.

Members of the Narcissus Festival court included Jacklyn Chun Lan Ma, first princess; Leilani Marie Oi Lan Soon, second princess; Teresa Moon-Shin Lu, third princess, and Chantel Oi Lin Ching, fourth princess.

'TODAY' SHOW WILL PROFILE ISLE SINGER

As part of her Broadway debut as Bloody Mary in "South Pacific" in April, Isle singer-actress Loretta Ables Sayre will be "shadowed" by an NBC TV crew from dawn to dusk tomorrow for a day-in-the-life feature destined for the "Today" show.

Ables Sayre will start her day on radio with Frank B. Shaner and Mandy on KUMU 94.7 FM, then do voiceovers as "the voice" of PBS Hawai'i, mingle with publicist husband David Sayre (as well as her mom and two dogs) at their Mililani Mauka home, then perform at a sunset jazz "aloha concert" at the Lagoon Lawn of the Ihilani resort, where a drink will be dedicated to her.

"The footage of music by the ocean, sand and palms will juxtapose well against my arrival in NYC (this weekend)," said Ables Sayre. "Then the 'Today' show is going to follow me from our arrival through the rehearsal period, up to opening night."

The segments will air to coincide with the April 3 launch of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, two days after Ables Sayre's 50th birthday on April 1. She is known here for her starring role in Diamond Head Theatre's "You Somebody" and for her club gigs at the Halekulani and the former Kahala Hilton.

DR. PHIL OFFERS BRITNEY ADVICE

LOS ANGELES — Television's Dr. Phil McGraw said Britney Spears, released from a hospital yesterday, needs psychological help, "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" reported in a press release. The troubled pop star had been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by paramedics Thursday night after police were called to her home in a dispute involving custody of her sons.

"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," McGraw told the TV programs.

REGGAE TREASURES VANISH IN JAMAICA

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A massive collection of 1970s music, including original recordings by reggae greats Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, has disappeared from the archives of the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corp.

The possible theft of thousands of vinyl records and CDs is a blow to the island's history, said Olivia Grange, Jamaica's information minister.

"The latest development is a national disgrace," said Gladstone Wilson, former program manager for JBC radio.
