Help needed to fight alien algae at Maunalua Bay

Advertiser Staff

Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive alien algae from Maunalua Bay in Hawai'i Kai and clean up the beach on Saturday.

The event, organized by Malama Maunalua, will run from 8 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers should meet at the Hui Nalu halau, located on the west side of the Hawai'i Kai boat ramp by the canoes. Gloves and other equipment will be provided.

The bay has seen a significant decline in its reef health and fish populations partially due to the introduction and proliferation of alien algae.
