Man pleads no contest in manslaughter case

Advertiser Staff

The tour bus driver responsible for the death of a 41-year-old Kane'ohe resident Corey Voss in 2006 has pleaded no contest to manslaughter.

Steve Oshiro, 50, entered the plea this morning before Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario and faces 10 years in prison. Sentencing was set for April.

Prosecuting Attorney Peter Carlisle said Oshiro was under the influence of crystal methamphetamine when his Roberts Hawaii tour bus veered across the center line of Kamehameha Highway in Kahalu'u.

Oshiro's lawyer, David Hayakawa, said the issue of drug use will be addressed at sentencing in April. He said Oshiro "knows he is responsible for the death of another" and "does not want to put the Voss family through the ordeal of a trial."

Voss, a food and beverage director at Oahu Country Club, was returning home from a day of surfing when he was killed.

His pregnant wife gave birth after Voss was killed.
