Public meeting tomorrow regarding Ma'alaea harbor

Advertiser Staff

The public is invited to attend an information meeting regarding its proposed ferry system facility upgrades, new sewage pump-out system and electrical improvements for the Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the harbormaster's office (Old Sea Flight Building) on the south mole of the Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor.

Currently there are no pump-out facilities at the harbor and vessels either dispose of their sewage at sea or have it pumped out by a private pump truck.

The Ma'alaea improvement project proposes to construct two public pump-out facilities, individual pump-out risers on the south mole, utility improvements, a new ferry terminal/district office building, a stabilized/resurfaced south mole, upgrades to the ferry docking facilities, an overflow parking lot and a new comfort station.

Design work for the project should be completed by April 2008 and bids opened in June 2008.
