Surf on the rise along Hawaii's north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

Surf this morning will be 3 feet to 5 feet along north-facing shores, but will increase to 8 feet to 10 feet by this afternoon. The National Weather Service also said west-facing shores will see surf 1 foot to 3 feet this morning and 5 feet to 7 feet by this afternoon.

The rise in surf is from a moderate northwest swell that will be building later today and be followed by a much larger northwest swell Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, the National Weather Service said, north- and west-facing shores may reach the high-surf warning threshold. Large northwest swells are expected to maintain elevated surf heights Friday through Friday.

Today, east shores will see surf 2 feet to 4 feet and surf along south shores will be 1 foot to 2 feet.
