Slack-key virtuoso to perform in free concert series

Advertiser Staff

Ledward Ka'apana, an award-winning slack key (ki ho'alu) virtuoso, will be the next featured performer in Na Mele No Na Pua, a free concert series at the Embassy Suites Grand Lanai at Waikiki Beach Walk.

The four-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, who played on a Grammy Award winning compilation last year and is among the nominees in this year's Grammy competition, is a seasoned musician whose career spans nearly 40 years. Besides his mastery of ki ho'alu, Ka'apana is an accomplished baritone who also boasts a sweet and powerful falsetto.

Before launching a solo career, the entertainer from Kalapana on the Big Island performed with his twin brother Nedward and cousin Dennis Pavao as Hui 'Ohana, a popular group in the 1970s and '80s. He later fronted another trio, I Kona.

The concert, set for 4 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 26, is a presentation of Outrigger Enterprises Groups, in collaboration with the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame and the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts.

Valet parking ($6) is available at the Embassy Suites.
