KAPA'A
Information sought on school bomb explosion

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i police are seeking the public's help with information regarding an explosion at Kapa'a Elementary School over the weekend.

Police received numerous calls from residents at around 11 p.m. Friday about an explosion at the school.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a homemade bomb had exploded outside the sliding door of the school library, causing the door to buckle and the glass to crack.

Officers found black powdery residue on the sliding door and pieces of the explosive device scattered around the area.

No one was injured and no other structures were damaged.

According to police, private security guards were working at the school on Friday night; however, they were not in the vicinity of the library at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about the explosion is asked to call Detective Patrick Balbarino at 241-1684; police dispatch, 241-1711; or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
