MA'ALAEA
Harbor improvements to be explained at meeting

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will convene an informational meeting tomorrow on proposed ferry system facility upgrades, a new sewage pump-out system and electrical improvements for the Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the harbormaster's office on the south mole of the harbor.

DLNR Chairwoman Laura H. Thielen said the long-awaited project will provide the facilities for the proper disposal of vessel sewage, reducing the amount that is dumped in the ocean.

There are no pump-out facilities at the harbor, and vessels either dispose of their sewage at sea or have it pumped out by a private pump truck.

Design work for the project should be completed by April, with bids opened in June, according to the DLNR.

Anyone requiring special assistance for the meeting should call Nick Giaconi or Stacy Masuda at 243-5818.
