Polynesian center to host Moanikeala Hula Festival

The Polynesian Cultural Center will this month host the 18th annual Moanikeala Hula Festival.

Halau from across the island will perform at the event set for Jan. 19 at the PCC's Pacific Theater in La'ie.

A tribute of song and dance for the host culture of Hawai'i will honor of the late Aunty Sally Wood Nalua'i, who served as PCC's first hula instructor when it opened in 1963 and continued until 1980. She continued to serve as a consultant until he death in 2000.

"At the PCC, Aunty Sally will always be remembered and celebrated as a beloved kumu hula," Ellen Gay Dela Rosa, senior manager of promotions, said in a news release.

Hula Halau participating in the 2008 Moanikeala Hula Festival include:

    The festival will begin at 10 a.m., and admission is $8 per person. Annual passholders are welcome to the festival for free.
