Maui schools to get $11 million in upgrades

Lahainaluna High School, Baldwin High School and King Kekaulike High School on Maui will be getting almost $11 million in new construction using state funds, a news release said.

In announcing the release of $10,928,000 for improvements, the statement from Gov. Linda Lingle said projects include construction of a new cafeteria, telecommunications upgrades and the design of a new auditorium.

The following projects are planned:

  • Lahainaluna High School, Lahaina: $9.4 million for the design and construction of a new cafeteria at the school.

  • Baldwin High School, Wailuku: $860,000 will be used to upgrade the telecommunications system to accommodate the school's educational technology requirements, including high-speed Internet access, the release said.

  • King Kekaulike High School, Pukalani: $650,000 has been released to help fund the design of a new auditorium at the school.
