UH football player Farney collapses, dies in Arizona

University of Hawai'i slotback Mitch Farney was used mostly on the scout team this past season. His first season at UH was in 2006.

University of Hawai'i football player Mitch Farney died last night in Arizona after collapsing while playing basketball, his family confirmed this morning.

Farney, a 5-foot-11, 188-pound freshman slotback, redshirted in 2006, his first season at UH. He was used mostly on the scout team this past season.

Farney, who was on scholarship, had planned to transfer to Weber State in Utah.

His hometown is Phoenix, Ariz.
