Surf hits 20 feet, keeps lifeguards busy

High winter surf kept lifeguards busy today on the north and western shores of O'ahu, leading to warnings to hundreds of people and nine rescues.Waves as high as 20 feet today on the North Shore led to seven rescues and 700 preventive actions, according to Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.
On the western shore, lifeguards rescued two people and took 250 preventive actions to protect people from surf that reached 20 feet.
Another large swell is expected Sunday with waves predicted at 30 feet high.
