Tadd Fujikawa, the young golfer who electrified the golf world at the 2007 Sony Open in Hawaii and subsequently turned pro, had a rocky opening round today in the 2008 Sony Open.

Fujikawa, who last year at the Sony became the youngest in 50 years to make a PGA Tour cut, finished at 4-over-par 74 at Waialae Country Club.

"I had a rough day," Fujikawa said. "I've got to shoot a good round tomorrow to make the cut. I think I can do it. Anything is possible."

Fujikawa had one double bogey, five bogeys and three birdies in his round.

Fujikawa parred the first hole but had a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 second hole. He parred the third hole to stand at 2-over.

On the fourth hole, he bogeyed the par-3 and parred the par-4 fifth hole before bogeying par-5 sixth hole.

Fujikawa bookended pars on the seventh and ninth holes with another bogey on the par-4 eighth hole to make the turn at 5-over 40.

On the back nine, Fujikawa opened with another bogey on the par-4 10th hole, parred the 11th and picked up his first birdie of the day on the par-4 12 hole.

Fujikawa bogeyed the par-4 13th hole, but rebounded with his second birdie of the round on the par-4 14th. He parred the 15th hole.

After a par on the 16th hole, Fujikawa birdied the par-3 17th and closed out his round with a par on the par-5 18th.

Kane'ohe's Dean Wilson, a Castle High alum, finished at 1-over. Parker McLachlin, a Punahou alum, finished at 3-over. Wilson and McLachlin are members of the PGA Tour.

Alex Ching, a Punahou student, finished at 2-over. Kevin Hayashi, the PGA Aloha Section player of the Year, finished at 11 over.
