Hawaii officials seek support for WWII postage stamp

Advertiser Staff

Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, Jr. and state legislators today urged the U.S. Postal Commission to issue a commemorative stamp in honor of Japanese-American soldiers who served during World War II.

Legislators introduced resolutions in both houses today to seek a stamp, which could be issued in 2010.

Aiona and the legislators also asked supporters in Hawai'i and the Mainland to log onto www.niseistamp.org to voice their support.

The Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee meets Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 to consider requests for commemorative stamps.
