Video: High surf hits Oahu's North Shore

For the second day in a row city lifeguards were busy at north- and west-facing shores, issuing 1,100 warnings, making 30 assists with water craft and rescuing five people, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department.

A high surf advisory will continue through tonight, but waves on the north- and west-facing shores are expected to subside tonight and tomorrow.

Waves on the north-facing shores will be 18 to 22 feet this afternoon and drop to 10 to 14 feet tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

West-facing shores will also see a drop from 12 to 15 feet this afternoon to 8 to 10 feet tomorrow.

Surf on east- and south-facing shores will remain at 1 to 3 feet through tomorrow, but some southeast and southwest beaches may see surf from 2 to 4 feet.
