HAWAI'I KAI
Help wanted to remove algae at Maunalua Bay

Advertiser Staff

Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive alien algae from Maunalua Bay in Hawai'i Kai and clean up the beach on Saturday.

The event, organized by Malama Maunalua, will run from 8 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers should meet at the Hui Nalu halau on the west side of the Hawai'i Kai boat ramp by the canoes. Gloves and other equipment will be provided.

The bay has seen a significant decline in its reef health and fish populations, partly due to the introduction and proliferation of alien algae.

For more information or to help, contact Janice Staab at 542-9107, or e-mail jstaab@tnc.org, by tomorrow.
