Woman, 69, dies after pedestrian accident in Kailua

A 69-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Castle Medical Center following a pedestrian accident on Kailua Road this morning, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.Cheplic said the woman was taken to Castle in critical condition immediately after the incident near the corner of Kailua Road and Ulumanu Drive by the Tesoro gas station.
The Kailua-bound lanes remain closed while police vehicular homicide investigators examine the scene.
Details of the accident were not immediately available.
Emergency crews were sent to the scene about 5:20 a.m.
