HAWAI'I KAI
Bone marrow registry seeking sign-ups Sunday

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry will be at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide information about bone marrow donation and to register individuals interested in donating.

A quick swipe of a cotton swab inside the cheek is all that's necessary to screen individuals for the registry. Those interested in registering should be in good health, between the ages of 18 and 60.

Only 30 percent of patients with cancer, immune disorders and other illnesses requiring bone marrow can find a match within their own families. There is a special need for those with Asian, Hawaiian, Pacific Islander or mixed heritage ancestry.

The drive will be set up next to the Bloodmobile in the parking lot near Costco. For more information, call the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry at 547-6973.
