Preps: Leilehua runner Jenkins earns state award

Leilehua High School junior Bryce Jenkins was named Gatorade Hawai'i Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, The Gatorade Company, in partnership with RISE Magazine, announced yesterday.

Jenkins won his second straight state title in November, winning in 16 minutes, 7.97 seconds. He also helped the Mules win the boys state team championship.

He also placed 50th at the Foot Locker West Regional meet with a time of 15:56.

The award recognizes athletic and academic excellence and character demonstrated on and off the race course.

Jenkins and Mililani's Kristin Ali Keith, the girls state winner, are now both eligible for the Gatorade National Runner of the Year awards.
