American Red Cross volunteers responded Friday afternoon to a residential fire in Hauula that caused major damage to the home and affected eight individuals living there, according to a news release from the agency. The Red Cross is meeting the emergency disaster needs of those affected by providing assistance for shelter, clothing, food and bedding. Caseworkers will continue to follow up with the family to ensure their immediate needs are met, and to provide referrals to assist with their disaster recovery, the news release said.
The Red Cross encourages all families to make a disaster plan to include an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape, a communications plan to help families reconnect after disaster, and a disaster supplies kit that is readily available to aid in a quick evacuation. Information on developing a family plan is available to the public at www.redcross.org, or a brochure can be requested by calling 734-2101.
