Advertiser Staff

RENO, Nev. — Brandi Fitzgerald scored 21 points and Dellena Criner added 19 as the University of Nevada women's basketball team defeated Hawai'i, 75-65, in a Western Athletic Conference game today.

Tanya Smith had 14 points and a season-high 17 rebounds for her sixth straight double-double to lead the Rainbow Wahine (6-9, 0-2 WAC). Hawai'i lost at Utah State on Wednesday and have dropped two straight on the road.

The Rainbow Wahine trailed by 17 in the second half, but cut the deficit to 60-55 with six minutes remaining. However, that was the closest Hawai'i would get as Nevada (11-4, 2-0) remained on top of the WAC standings.

Saundra Cariaga scored 13 points for Hawai'i, Leilani Galdones added 11 off the bench and Megan Tinnin added 10 off the bench.

Hawai'i plays at Fresno State on Thursday.
