Golf: Lickliter withdraws due to birth of twins

Associated Press

Frank Lickliter withdrew from the Sony Open in Hawaii when his family went from a twosome to a foursome.

Lickliter's longtime partner, Diane Owen, gave birth to twin boys yesterday morning in Jacksonville, Fla. Steele and Storm Lickliter were born about six weeks early, both weighing 4 pounds. The boys and their mother were in good health.

Lickliter earned back his PGA Tour card last month when he went wire-to-wire to win the qualifying tournament. He thought it was safe to start his 13th season on tour in Hawaii because the twins were not due until next month.

He opened with a 70, then got word his wife was in labor and tried to make it home to Florida. He missed their births, a spokesman said, but was at the hospital yesterday afternoon.

Lickliter has two PGA Tour victories, the most recent coming in 2003 at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.
