Tennis: Tursunov wins Sydney final over Guccione

Associated Press

SYDNEY, Australia — Dmitry Tursunov beat Chris Guccione of Australia 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) to win the Sydney International men's singles title today.

Tursunov, a California-based Russian, withstood solid serving from Guccione, who only lost 10 points on his serve and had 15 aces.

It was the first ATP Tour final for Guccione, who had beaten No. 6 seed Lleyton Hewitt and No. 4 seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.

Tursunov beat France's Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the semifinals while Guccione defeated Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4.

It was the first Sydney final since 2000 not to feature a seeded player.
