Buddhist center presents class

The Buddhist Study Center is offering a free class, "Dialogue With Shinran Shonin," led by the Rev. Toshio Murakami of Pearl City Hongwanji.

The class runs 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays through Jan. 30.

DOCUMENTARY TO BE SCREENED

Christ Church Uniting Presbyterians and Disciples will screen the CNN documentary, "God's Warriors," about fundamentalism in Islam, Judaism and Christianity in a four-week session beginning 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the sanctuary.

There will also be discussion groups based on the book "The Faith Club."

UNITY CHURCH WORKSHOPS SLATED

Unity Church of Hawaii will present a series of workshops with Michael Ryce beginning Sunday in the church chapel (unless otherwise noted).

The classes are:

  • "Why Is This Happening to Me ... Again?!" at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

  • "Creating Consciously" at 7 p.m. Monday.

  • "Healing Through Relationships" at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

  • "Circle of Life and How to Play It" at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Room 204.

  • "Codependence to Interdependence" at 7 p.m. Thursday.

    SHINTO SHRINE TO PERFORM RITUAL

    The Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha - Dazaifu Tenmangu will hold a Sagicho — an ancient ceremony that originated in the 11th century that expresses appreciation and signifies purification by burning old ofuda and omamori amulets — will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 20.

    The Shinto shrine is located at 1239 Olomea St.

    Volunteers will remove plastic coverings and metal ornaments from the omamori to prevent toxic fumes from harming the environment, so all old omamori and ofuda should be be taken to the shrine by Tuesday. (Kadomatsu and dolls are not accepted.)
