A witness told police he saw murder suspect Roy William Hartsock leaning over his wife, who was lying on the floor with a knife in her chest at their Kalihi apartment building, according to a court document filed this week.

Hartsock, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of his 39-year-old wife Wednesday night. His wife, Jenny T. Hartsock, was found lying in the hallway in front of their apartment at 757 Gulick Ave. Police said she was stabbed multiple times outside the apartment with a kitchen knife. She died of a wound to the chest.

Hartsock was arrested about an hour after the stabbing after police found him at the corner of Haka Drive and North King Street. Hartsock told an officer there that he had just stabbed his wife, according to the affidavit, which was released yesterday.

Police said witnesses earlier had heard the couple arguing and that Jenny Hartsock yelled for help. Roy Hartsock allegedly left the building and went to a nearby fire station, where he told firefighters someone had stabbed his wife.

According to a police affidavit filed this week, a witness said he went outside after he heard Jenny Hartsock screaming. The witness saw her on the floor with a knife in her chest and said Roy Hartsock was leaning over her before he ran down the steps and onto Gulick Avenue, the affidavit said.

Two other witnesses told police officers that Roy Hartsock, while leaving the fire station, approached them and "uttered that his wife had been stabbed by five guys with guns," the affidavit said.
