Donated soccer balls will be heading to Iraq

Advertiser Staff

A special presentation of soccer balls to military representatives to help spread goodwill in Iraq through the sport of soccer will be made at the Armed Forces Committee meeting this morning at the Kapolei Hale.

The meeting runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

In November, Mayor Mufi Hannemann's office learned that troops stationed in Iraq were interested in teaching soccer to Iraqi children and setting up soccer games as a way of sharing goodwill through healthy physical activity. The games would also be an important means of building trust and openness with members of the local Iraqi communities.

The balls being donated were purchased at cost through ST Sports in Kane'ohe by Outrigger Enterprises.

The soccer balls will be delivered to Iraq by the military in February.
