Advertiser Staff

There will beintermittent single-lane closures on Fort Weaver Road in both directions from Aawa Drive to Old Fort Weaver Road from8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday for lane striping and concrete barrier placements in the right shoulder lane.

The right shoulder lanes in both directions from Laulaunui Street to Old Fort Weaver Road will also be closed 24-hours-a-day behind concrete barriers to isolate work areas from traffic.

Phase II of the project will widen Fort Weaver Road from four-to-six lanes, adding an additional traffic lane in each direction from Aawa Drive to Geiger Road.

Phase II is expected to be completed in mid-2009 at a total cost of $59.85 million, 80 percent of which will paid for with federal funds and 20 percent by state funds. Phase I of the project was completed in August 2006 and widened Fort Weaver Road from four-to-six lanes from Farrington Highway to Aawa Drive.
