Dollar falls versus currencies in European trading

LONDON (AP) — The U.S. dollar weakened against other major currencies in European trading Monday. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.4872, up from $1.4785 late Friday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4880.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Friday, included 108.04 Japanese yen, down from 108.91; 1.0934 Swiss francs, down from 1.1010; and 1.0158 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0206.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9588, up from $1.9573.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 108.12 yen and 1.0927 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9584.

Gold traded in London at $907.75 per troy ounce, up from $895.55 late Friday. In Zurich, gold traded at $907.20 bid per troy ounce, up from $893.95.

Silver opened in London at $16.46, up from $16.11.
