Concerts, food, crafts to honor cultural diversity

The Maui Cultural Diversity Days Celebration will be held Wednesday through Jan. 21, culminating in a free outdoor festival of cultural performances, ethnic foods and crafts.

The celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with a free gospel choir workshop led by Sheryl Renee, founder of the Voices In Faith Power Gospel Choir.

The workshop will be held at Keolahou Congregational Hawaiian Church, 177 S. Kihei Road.

On Friday, a free Aloha Concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Kihei church.

The original stage production, "Sistas and Storytellers," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 'Iao Theater. Call 242-6969 for tickets and information.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated Jan. 21 with a street festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Wailuku town.

A free "I Have a Dream" concert will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at 'Iao Theater, with a performance of "We Shall Overcome," a stage production highlighting the accomplishments of noted black Americans.
