COACH ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED GIRL, 13

A former assistant volleyball coach for a private high school has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Darin Hideki Yoshinaka, 28, of an Alexander Street address was charged at 11:30 p.m. Saturday with two counts of first-degree sex assault and five counts of third-degree sex assault. He posted $50,000 bail and was released yesterday at 12:55 a.m.

The alleged assaults occurred during a two-month period from last Nov. 3 through Jan. 2. He was not a member of the school's faculty and is no longer coaching at Maryknoll. Yoshinaka was a part-time hire whose seasonal contract expired in mid-October.

Yoshinaka has an initial appearance scheduled Wednesday at District Court.

2 MEN FACE ASSAULT, KIDNAP CHARGES

Prosecutors yesterday charged two Waikiki men with felony offenses following a police investigation into a 20-year-old woman's complaint that she was held against her will since Wednesday, sexually assaulted and forced to prostitute herself.

Jonathan Payne, 43, and La-Shawn Adams, 35, are being held in lieu of $100,000 and $50,000 bail, respectively, pending an initial appearance at District Court today. Both were arrested Friday at 120 Kaiulani Ave. — Payne at 1:25 p.m. and Adams at 1:45 p.m.

Payne was charged with first-degree promotion of prostitution and kidnapping while Adams was charged with first-degree sex assault and kidnapping.

The alleged offenses occurred in Waikiki and Kalihi on Wednesday and Oct. 26, 2007, police said.

Police are looking for two other men in the case.

Correction: Darin Hideki Yoshinaka was no longer employed as a Maryknoll High School assistant volleyball coach when he allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl from Nov. 3 to Jan. 2. Yoshinaka was a part-time hire whose seasonal contract expired in mid-October. Also, Sacred Hearts Academy did not win a Division II championship with Yoshinaka as one of its coaches in 2006.
