Men face charges for injuring Honolulu police officers

Advertiser Staff

Charges are pending against two men being held at the Honolulu Police Department's main station cellblock for allegedly causing injuries to officers.

A Waipahu man, 33, arrested at his Pupukahi Street apartment at 6:34 p.m. yesterday for allegedly reversing his car at an HPD solo bike officer on the H-1 Freeway in 'Aiea, is being investigated for attempted first-degree murder, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, and resisting arrest.

The male solo bike officer, 42, was treated at Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi and released.

The officer was attempting to stop the car near the Kaonohi Street overpass after allegedly observing the driver assaulting a juvenile passenger.

The driver stopped momentarily but then accelerated in reverse, hitting the officer, and drove off after pulling out of traffic onto the shoulder of the roadway. The officer provided a description of the car and license number.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old homeless man is facing charges for allegedly punching two police officers today at 151 Kapahulu Ave.

The two officers were preparing to cite the man for sleeping on the sidewalk at 1:15 a.m. when the suspect allegedly punched both of them. The officers were treated at The Queen's Medical Center for minor injuries and released.
