Former Hilo resident Kimberly Kim is one of seven amateur golfers to receive sponsor invitations to play in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA's first major of the year. The tournament is April 3 to 6 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Kim, 16, became the youngest U.S. Women's Amateur champion in 2006. She was named to the U.S. Curtis Cup team earlier this week and is the top-ranked junior golfer in the current GolfWeek rankings.

Other amateurs invited to Kraft are reigning U.S. Women's Amateur champion Maria Jose Uribe, Mallory Blackwelder, two-time collegiate player of the year Amanda Blumenherst, U.S. Women's Public Links champion Mina Harigae and Alison Walshe. Arkansas star Stacy Lewis, who earned low amateur honors last year at Kraft with a tie for fifth, qualified automatically but has declined.

Last year 19-year-old Morgan Pressel, who represents Kapalua, became the youngest to win an LPGA major at Kraft.
